چکیده
We present methods and algorithms that allow the Vlasiator code to run global, three-dimensional hybrid-Vlasov simulations of Earth's entire magnetosphere. The key ingredients make Vlasov at magnetospheric scales possible are sparse velocity space implementation spatial adaptive mesh refinement. outline algorithmic improvement semi-Lagrangian solver for six-dimensional phase quantities, discuss coupling Maxwell equations' solvers in a refined mesh, provide performance figures from simulation test runs demonstrate scalability this system full runs.

Database Tomography is a patented system for analyzing large amounts of textual computerized material. It includes algorithms for extracting multi-word phrase frequencies and performing phrase proximity analyses. This report shows how Database Tomography can be used to derive technical intelligence from the published literature. One potential application of Database Tomography is to obtain the ...

are increasingly essential to basic and applied space-physics research for two primary reasons. First, the heliosphere and magnetosphere are vast regions of space from which we have relatively few in situ measurements. Numerical simulations let us “stitch together” observations from different regions and provide data-interpretation insight to help us understand this complex system’s global beha...
متن کاملThe Near-Earth Space Radiation for Electronics
The space radiation environment can have serious effects on spacecraft electronics. For example, accumulated damage from electron and proton exposure will limit system endurance. Transient effects from individual high-energy protons or cosmic rays can disrupt system operation, perhaps irreversibly. Of particular importance in assessing the impact of the space radiation on electronic devices are...
متن کامل1 Earth Observation – Space Technology
For monitoring of the Earth thousands of satellites have been sent into space on missions to collect data related different spheres of the Earth investigations and studies. Today, the ability to forecast weather, climate, and natural hazards, environmental monitoring and ecological issues depend critically on these satellite-based observations. Based on this data it is possible to gather satell...
متن کاملOrbital Simulations for Directed Energy Deflection of Near-Earth Asteroids
Directed energy laser ablation at the surface of an asteroid or comet produces an ejection plume that will impart a thrust on the asteroid. This thrust can mitigate a threatened collision with the Earth. This technique uses the asteroid itself as the deflection propellant. The DESTAR laser system is designed to produce a sufficiently intense spot on the surface of an asteroid to accomplish this...
